I felt it crawl down my skin tickling the small hairs on my arm on its way down, but when I looked, it was just a small ant. I felt uncomfortable and I knew I needed to remove it from my skin to feel comfortable again.
What if we were able to look at our ‘E-Motions’ with a similar approach?
What if we were able to sense there was ‘energy’ in ‘motion’ in our bodies, recognise how we felt and from this place take the right action to feel more balanced?
Our emotions have electrical frequencies which can be plotted on a scale. From low-frequency energy such as grief and fear to high-frequency energy like love & joy. It’s easy for us to want to embrace the high-frequency emotions but the reality is that all emotions have to be acknowledged in order for us to correctly process, and then ultimately release them.
I have found it important to create awareness of my emotions by firstly noticing that there is a shift in the way I’m feeling. You see our emotions are also signals from our body directing us on how to react to certain external stimuli, be it a traumatic event like the loss of a loved one, or the joy at the sight of a new-born baby.
Once I sense this energy, it becomes easier for me to put a ‘label’ on it: Sadness, Fear, Anxiety, whatever. With this, I also take the time to notice where in my body I feel it e.g. my chest which is generally my heart area, it could be my throat (often the case if I haven’t spoken up on something troubling me), or my gut if I’m making a decision that just doesn’t feel right.
Finally, I am able to ask myself; “what do I need to create balance here?” Maybe it’s to share my fears with a girlfriend, drink more water or even just get more physical movement.
Our emotional states are the key to our wellbeing, accepting our emotions supports our ability to maintain a stable sense of self and perspective on our worlds, thus allowing us to create more balance in our health
